Kagame donates Frw15m to former Ugandan school

President Paul Kagame, who turned 50 yesterday, has donated Frw15 million to rehabilitate Rwengoro Primary School in Kamwenge district, Uganda. Kagame obtained his primary education from the school in the early 1970s. The contribution was contained in a letter by the Director of Cabinet, Maj. Gen. Frank Mugambage, to the Rwandan embassy in Kampala, according to Uganda’s government daily, The New Vision. Mugambage confirmed the donation yesterday, adding that it followed a visit by the school’s delegation to Rwanda, which requested for financial assistance from the President. In a letter to Kagame, the school’s administrators appealed for assistance to renovate the main block, the paper reported yesterday. They said the block was damaged by an earthquake and its roof blown off in a storm in April. “We are happy to note Rwengoro boasts of many old boys and girls in various capacities. President Kagame was nurtured by the school. But the once glittering school needs help,” the school reportedly said in a letter delivered to the President Kagame on October 8. The school, which was built in the 1960s to serve refugees from the Kahunge Settlement Camp, was attended by a number of former Rwandan refugees, who currently occupy senior government positions in Rwanda.Kagame also recently donated about Frw50 million to Ntare School in Mbarara, Uganda, for the construction of an ICT block. President Kagame and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Kaguta Museveni are OBs of the school. Ends
