TodayMalawi v Rwanda (Friendly) WC/Africa Cup QualifiersJune 6Zambia v Rwanda Rwanda’s national football team ‘Amavubi Stars’ will have a serious approach when they engage Malawi’s Flames in a friendly this afternoon at the Kamuzu stadium. Tucak Branko’s team are using the game as a warm up to their crunch 2010 World Cup/ CAN qualifier against Zambia on June 6 and need a good result to lift their morale. After the arrival of Libya based influential defender Saddou Boubacar, the team looks stout at the back. Branko is adamant today’s game will give him a clear picture of how his players will perform against Zambia. “I wanted us to play against South Africa or DR Congo but it didn’t happen. Never the less, Malawi is not a bad option and we are looking for a good display against them,” Branko said before the team’s departure on Wednesday night. Just like Rwanda, Malawi need a top notch display today as they plot to put their faltering 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign back on track. Malawi, who were humiliated in their opening 2010 World Cup/ CAN qualifier against Ivory Coast (5-0) host Burkina Faso on June 6 at Blantyre’s Kamuzu Stadium. Ahead of today’s tie, Malawi’s coach Kinnah Phiri sounded optimistic. “Rwanda is a strong side which has not lost for some time. The fact that they have brought a top side gives us a good opportunity to asses our strength before the Burkina Faso game,” Kinnah was quoted in one of Malawi’s local papers. After today’s tie, Rwanda will fly to Zambia on June 3, three days before their crunch tie. Rwanda like all the other teams in Group C have one point after their goalless draw in their opening qualifier against Algeria. Egypt and Zambia also settled for a point after their 1-1 draw in Cairo. Ends
