8,000 iron sheets for resettling Genocide survivors

EASTERN PROVINCE NGOMA — The district authorities have received 8,112 iron sheets and 845 kilograms of nails from the Ministry of Local Government, to help resettle close to 169 needy Genocide survivors. This was disclosed by Silver Ngarambe, the district director of Good governance in an interview with The New Times on Wednesday. “We have received iron sheets and nails. They have been distributed to the sector levels according to the number of beneficiaries in particular areas,” Ngarambe said.Each house, Ngarambe added, will take 48 iron sheets and five kilograms of nails. “The work of resettling these people now remains in our hands; there is no more excuse…since the government has provided the required materials,” he said, adding that the district wants to resettle all survivors by the end of next month. There are 425 needy residents who lack shelter in the district. The government set end of this year for resettling all Genocide survivors countrywide. In a related development, the district has received 48 Rwandans who were recently repatriated from western Uganda. Ngaramba said all of the former refugees have been resettled in their respective families. Since 2007, the Ngoma District has resettled 281 Rwandans majority of who were repatriated from Tanzania.
