RRA launches on-line clearance

Officials said that for a beneficiary to have a fast service, he must have a fast Internet connection. Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) last week launched an on-line Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) to reduce the flooding of taxpayers at RRA’s offices. According to RRA’s Commissioner for Domestic Taxes Department, Pierre Celestin Bumbakare: “TCC on-line comes as RRA’s continuous campaign to deliver better services to its customers. The TCC on-line service is easy and very quick. We are implementing this service to reduce too much time consuming which has been a problem to our clients and employees.” Bumbakare also added that they have been receiving over 100 TCCs per day and these documents could be the prioritized to be issued within two days. He added that once the system is up and running, this time will be reduced to hours instead of days. Customers who can access the Internet are required to enter information like Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), reason for applying, Bank details, National ID or Passport Number, trade license number and an e-mail address after logging onto RRA’s website. The officials are calling upon taxpayers to constantly check their e-mails since it’s another way through which RRA may contact them when need arises. According to officials those who have no e-mail addresses are encouraged to acquire them as soon as possible. During the launch, the commissioner also said that for a beneficiary to have a fast service, he must have a fast Internet connection. “We are working towards beating the country’s Vision 2020 and as a way of embracing ICT for efficiency, that’s why we are introducing this service to limit the people’s expenditures of traveling from upcountry or other parts around the country to come and get a service which will take customers days yet the can execute the transactions in their bedrooms,” Bumbakare explained. In RRA’s continuous strive to improve better services, RRA is opening up more branches to make it easy for taxpayers to carry out their transactions promptly. Mumbakare, also said customers who can’t use the service, the old system will continue operating and that for those who cant access Internet and those who are willing to learn how to use the system, RRA would facilitate the process. RRA is responsible for providing advice to the government on tax policy matters relating to revenue collections. It performs other duties in relation to tax administration, as may be directed from time to time by the cabinet. Ends
