I come from a humble background, governor tells teachers

NORTHERN PROVINCE MUSANZE — The Governor of Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, has urged primary and secondary school teachers in the country to uphold their professional ethics in order to deliver quality education, which he said is key to economic development. Addressing over 2,000 teachers from Musanze District at the district stadium on Thursday, the Governor said teachers should be innovative by engaging in other income generating activities like modern agriculture and livestock husbandry through cooperative societies. Bosenibamwe, who has just assumed office of governor, said that he needs full support of teachers and challenged them to be proud of their work because it is being appreciated by every one. “My journey to this current office I hold has been long because I come from a very humble background. But I had a determination and the spirit of hard work which has guided me to this point,’’ Bosenibamwe, himself a former teacher said. Later, teachers lined up to raise their complaints during which they said that the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry text books they received in second term were written in French, instead of English which is the new language of instruction. They also requested the governor to address the problem of salary delays for new teachers which leads to accumulation of their salary arrears. Teachers were challenged by the governor to apply their knowledge and be exemplary in implementing various government programmes. Ends
