Editor, This is a response to an article that ran Monday on ‘The New Times’ front page, which explained that the crime rate had gone down by 38 percent. This is one of those good things that happen in Rwanda where statistics paint a bright picture of issues. However, while these statistics might be true, we laymen do not see how this is so when armed robbers are easily breaking into banks, like in the Kayonza robbery. And these acts of armed violence haven’t only occurred in banks. Earlier this year in Kimironko, a woman was shot dead as she drove out of her home by armed robbers, who then stole her money. The mere fact that there are many other attacks like these countrywide doesn’t convince me that the crime rate has gone down this quick. We, as citizens, need more assurance that goes beyond mere figures. Names withheld on requestKimironko
