Rwandan champions APR FC will face Tunisian outfit US Monastir in the first preliminary round of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League. The draw for Africas biggest continental club competition was held in Cairo on Tuesday afternoon and APR was paired against the North Africans. The first leg is scheduled to take place in Kigali between 9-11, September with the second leg slated for Tunisia a week later. The winner of the double header will lock horns with Egypt’s Al Ahly in the next round. Last season, APR FC dropped from the CAF Champions League to the Confederation Cup where they were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate by eventual winners RS Berkane. APR FC’s biggest success in the history of African club tournaments was in the 2002/2003 season where they reached the semifinals of then Cup Winners Cup. Also in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rwandan Peace Cup winners AS Kigali will battle Djibouti side ASAS Djibouti for a place in the second round.
