I am writing this story because I have realised the importance of friendship. When I first joined my school, Kigali Parents’ School, getting used to my new environment was very hard for me. All teachers and fellow students were new and it was not easy fitting in. When I got used and later made friends, my classmate and friend, Lina, told me about her experience, which made me realise how important it is for us to make friends in life. When she first joined school, she never enjoyed it but this was because she was scared. She thought children at school will bully her, so when Lina reached in class, she would sit down quietly, until a girl called Milly came to her and asked if she had any friends, Lina said; “No, I don’t have any friends,” then Milly asked her if she could be her friend. She smiled and said; “Of course, why not?!” And from then on, Lina and Milly were BFFs (Best Friends). When Lina went back home, she was very happy, and couldn’t wait to share her story with her sister. Happily, Lina said, “Oh sis, I have big news to tell you, it’s just that, at school I got a friend called Milly and she is such a nice friend.” Lina was so happy to find a friend she could spend time with and not be isolated at school. I share the same experience, school became fun when I got used to it and managed to make many friends. It feels boring and lonely when you don’t have friends, it may lead you to even lack interest in school. But when you have friends around you, that doesn’t happen. Imagine when you have friends, you can play together, you do everything together and you both enjoy your lives together as BFFs forever! The writer is a pupil at Kigali Parents’ School
