Ugandan comedian Patrick Idringi Salvador apologised to his Rwandan comedy audience as he marked a spectacular return to a comedy stage in Kigali during Sunday night’s Seka Live comedy held at M Hotel. The apology comes following a controversial joke about Rwanda in which he mentioned the word Genocide back in 2019. The joke at the time did not go well with Rwandans, with some describing the joke as ‘tasteless’ while others said it trivializes the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. “The guy messed up and he is ready to apologise,” show host Arthur Nkusi said of Salvador prior to introducing him to the stage. Like he had earlier highlighted it, shortly after he was announced as the next headliner of Seka Live July edition, the comedian felt the evening would be a golden opportunity for him to issue an apology to his Rwandan audience to create a remarkable reunion with them as well as cement a warm welcome back to the country in which he last performed six years ago. “I would like to say that I really apologize and I never take it for granted,” said the comedian. “This is my second time I am apologizing genuinely. And I must say it was unfortunate but it happened. We all make mistakes, right?” the comedian said shortly after touching down the stage. His apology was accepted and the chapter was closed. Salvado was no longer nervous to crack more jokes to steal the show, reflecting on how people would play hide and seek with police when spotted in bars during the covid-19. He also joked about how poverty can change one’s personality all of a sudden, referring to how his wife introduced him as a brother to the South African wealthy people with whom she was sharing some beer. She left home saying that she was going out with her friends. But Salvado later realised that she was with ‘handsome’ guys who made him worry a lot that he could lose his beloved wife. “When I arrived at the bar, a bouncer said ‘Salvado, you are my guy, I am going to let you in but don’t cause a scene. I said ‘but I came to see my wife, what are you talking about?’ he said ‘I don’t know but I warn you, if you cause a scene, I will bounce you”. When he entered, he saw his wife popping bottles on a table with like six other men. “I was at the time like ‘money I have but the guys are handsome’. The bouncer came and said I’ve told you. My wife also saw me from a distance and ran to me and was like ‘baby baby, don’t cause a scene, I will explain later,” he joked. The 30 minutes of entertainment the comedian spent on the stage were like a sip in the cup to many who wanted more from the comedian. Savaldo saved the evening for many who were yet to be entertained enough after a number of local comedians on the lineup like Regis and Rufendeke who struggled to live up their expectations despite becoming the stars of YouTube comedy. But Joshua and the Gen Z comedians did a good job in entertaining the audience. The show ended at 10.30 pm with Arthur announcing Patrick Rusine as the next headliner of the monthly comedy show slated for August 28.
