Ntore Habimana on Monday signed for the Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), Times sport has learnt. Habimana, also Laurier mens basketball alumni recently participated in the just concluded Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament featuring for Rwandan Energy Group (REG). The Canada based player was also on the national team roster who led Rwanda to the third window of qualifying at the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers despite the teams short performance. Over six games, he averaged 7.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20 minutes played. During his four years in the OUA with the Golden Hawks, the 65 guard totaled 606 points, 341 rebounds, and 174 assists spanning 70 regular season games. Habimana joins the two-time defending champion Stingers with just three regular season games remaining. His new squad sit fifth in the 10-team league at 9-8, so the Communications Studies graduate is aiming to make an immediate impact. To be able to play in a great league like the CEBL and be part of a winning organization like Edmonton is very exciting, said Habimana. Im looking forward to helping the Stingers in their playoff push. Last season was Habimana’s first as a professional, though not his first taste of high-level basketball since graduating. The 23-year-old was invited last year to play for the Rwandan national team, representing his father’s country of origin.
