It has been a week of mixed fortunes in the entertainment industry, with music owning the city in the process. New songs were dropped and the music shows are always organised but showbiz always comes across to play its part. The New Times takes a look at the top showbiz stories that made headlines during the past week. Did Papa Cyangwe use a minor in his video? Pressure continues to mount on rapper Papa Cyangwe after he was told that he used a minor in the video of ‘It’s Okay’, his brand-new song that features rising singer Afrique and rapper Fireman. The song is already dominating Kigali’s charts but it could be deleted on YouTube after the parents of one of the girls featuring in the video revealed that the daughter is still under the age (18) required to feature in song videos and as a result requested Papa Cyangwe to delete the song immediately. The New Times has learned that, prior to the video shooting, the girl in question begged Papa Cyangwe to let her feature in the video and, when the rapper started questioning her age, she insisted that his video would not be the first she featured in after she showed him previous videos that she acted in. Papa Cyangwe was hesitant until his cousin convinced him to let her feature in the video. Hours after the video release, the girl’s father contacted the rapper and threatened to report him to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) should he not delete the video on YouTube. The rapper is reportedly in dilemma and is unsure of what to do on whether to delete or keep his song on YouTube given the fact that the statements of the girl in question and her father are contradicting each other. With things hanging in air, the song is still on YouTube and has so far gathered over 120, 000 views. Buravan’s illness dilemma There have been questions over why musician Yvan Buravan has not been premiering his new song ‘Big Time’ since he released it about a month ago. However, fresh reports emerged that the singer’s state of health has not been in good condition due to an unknown illness that has been giving him a hard time over the past days. Buravan initially went for treatment at the Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK) thinking that he was suffering from stomachache but the doctors weren’t able to discover the illness prompting him to travel to Kenya earlier last week to seek advanced treatment. Delays in the singer’s diagnosis has left the singer’s friends, family and the music fraternity at large puzzled, and many continue to send him messages of comfort. A celebrity couple that separated so fast Rwandan showbiz journalist Edson Ishimwe, commonly known as Edman, recently parted ways with his wife of five months, Elizabeth Mugisha who is known in as Liza in the music world. Love between the then lovebirds is just part of their history with Edman now taking a new life chapter after announcing that and his then life partner Liza are no longer husband and wife after tying the knot in a wedding ceremony held in Kigali in February this year. While a showbiz presenter at one of the TV stations in Kigali, Edman had an online relationship with Liza who was living in Canada. The duo agreed to legalise their relationship in February and later left Rwanda to live together in Canada. However, it took them just five months to call it quits. The reason behind their split is yet to be known. During their time together, Edman was not only Liza’s husband but also her music manager. His ex-wife is now settling for a new life without him as a musician and individually. Forgotten Amalon is back! Few people might doubt Amalon’s talent in music, but different figures associated in music have on different occasions branded the singer as unmanageable prompting 1K Entertainment to terminate their management contract with him in April, last yeat. The singer then released only one song before going over a year without dropping a single song. Amalon has since been a forgotten man in music with some assuming that he quit music for good. However, it has been revealed that the singer spent the past few months preparing new music when he dropped his new EP ‘HKP’ on Friday. The EP comprises 4 songs namely ‘Champion’, ‘All Night Long’, ‘Fuego’ and ‘Kwaka’. With the EP, the singer made a big statement that he still has a ‘Never Say Die’ character in music as he looks to bounce back and take over the market to prove that he can do music with or without management.
