Kiyovu’s attempt to sign a new head coach in Patrick Aussems has sparked confusion among club supporters after club president Juvenal Mvukiyehe announced that a deal had been reached between the club and Patrick Aussems for the latter to become the club’s new head coach. The development followed media reports suggesting that a deal had been finalised and signed but the Belgian coach described the reports as ‘rumours’. Club Secretary General Omar Munyengabe told Times Sport that the Belgian agreed to coach the Green Baggies on a three-year deal but clarified that the contract remains unsigned. “The agreement has been reached but the contract has not been signed yet. After the talks, there is 90 per cent chance that he will become the coach of Kiyovu…but he has not signed yet,” Munyengabe said. Aussems, who is spending his holidays in Marseilles, France, laughed off reports that he was in Kigali earlier this week to put pen to paper after agreeing terms. “All these rumours (rolling on the floor laughing emoji) ... I am quiet, at home, 35° ... Let me enjoy my holidays ... Good evening everyone!” the tactician posted on his social media on Tuesday evening, July 12. Commenting on the post, Munyengabe said the coach wanted to clarify that suggested that he had not signed for the club. “I also saw his post …I think he made that post because different media reported that he has already signed, yet no contract has been signed yet. The talks were held but both sides have not put pen to paper,” he said. Aussems is expected to replace Francis Haringingo, who after guiding Kiyovu to a second place finish, moved to rival club Rayon Sports. Reports in Kenya suggest that Aussems still has one year remaining on his contract with AFC Leopards despite agreeing to join Kiyovu but there is room to terminate his contract with the club only if he pays an equivalent of two months of his salary in lieu of notice. Reacting to the reports, Munyengabe said, “I doubt that he still has a contract at AFC Leopard because, during the negotiations, he never mentioned that he still has a contract with them. All I know is that he is a free agent but I can’t say much about it as I have no idea about it”
