The annual Rutsindura Volleyball Memorial Tournament, commonly known as ‘Memorial Rutsindira’, is making a swift comeback after skipping the last two years owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s tournament takes place this weekend, June 18-19, for its 18th edition in Huye District. It had not been held since 2019. The competition is organised in memory of Alphonse Rutsindura, a former teacher and volleyball coach at Petit Seminaire Virgo Fidelis who was killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Times Sport understands that the two-day showpiece will be held under two categories – the youth category and the professional category. At least 33 teams have registered to take part. The organisers have allocated a Rwf30 million budget for the competition.
