Ivorian coupé-décalé band Magic System will be performing live in Kigali during the closing of the forthcoming AIC-MOCA festival slated for July 3, organisers have announced. It is the third time the celebrated band comes to entertain their supporters in Rwanda, having previously performed in the country in 2008, during the closing of the Pan-African Dance Festival alongside renowned Jamaican sisters Brick and Lace, and then famous local musicians Rafiki Mazimpak and Miss JoJo. Magic System is one of Africas most popular international groups with over 10 million albums sold worldwide. They will this time round join the likes of French rapper Youssoupha on the festival stage. AIC-MOCA festival is a joint project by Africa in Colors, a Rwandan-based art initiative represented by Raoul Rugamba and Movement of Creatives Africa (MOCA), a French based initiative represented by Cameroonian art entrepreneur Alain Bidjeck. They are working under three main axes, which are, education, collaboration and access to finance in the creative industry. Rugamba said the annual international conference/festival was initiated to further support the cultural and creative industries in Africa while it also serves as a creation of bridges between actors of the creative ecosystem. “The festival is not just about entertainment. We are also looking forward to sharing experiences in the creative industry through different activities lined up on the event’s agenda. We have other guests like Miss South Africa 2019 Zozibini Tunzi who will be interacting with female players in the creative industry on how best they can excel on the market with available opportunities,” Rugamba told The New Times. Together, the duo has built a global network of 50 countries across the globe, 35 being on the African continent and 15 being outside the continent. Among the various activities included in the AIC and MOCA summit and festival will be live concerts and DJ sets. Scheduled from June 30 to July 3, the second edition of AIC-MOCA festival comes to Kigali after a successful inaugural edition in Paris, France, during which City Mayor Pudence Rubingisa, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) deputy CEO Zephanie Niyonkuru, were among the 12 figures that represented the country at the festival.
