NORTHERN PROVINCE BURERA — A man in Burera District survived being lynched by angry residents on allegations of killing his 2-year old daughter. Adrian Musabyimana, 32, of Rugarama Sector, allegedly hit his daughter with a metal bar at night, killing the child instantly before cutting the body into pieces. It is alleged that Musabyeyezu attacked his daughter in reaction to a domestic quarrel he had with one of his three wives, Josephin Nyirambabazi. Sources further say he hit his daughter after Josephin went into hiding. Musabyimana survived the wrath of his neighbours after security officials intervened and handed him over to police where he is being held. The visibly shaken Musabyimana admitted to the crime, saying he acted under the influence of the local brew commonly known as ikigaje, which he had taken the whole day prior to committing the crime. According to police sources, Musabyimana has a past criminal record. He had earlier been arrested on charges of attempting to murder a woman in his village. The accused could be sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted of murder charges, according to the penal code. The Regional Police Commander, Supt. Roger Rutikanga attributed such extreme crime incidences to drug abuse and alcoholism which are mainly trafficked from the neighbouring countries. Ends
