SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA—A grenade explosion in a Cyeza sector home has left one dead and five injured, and a teenager in police custody.Jean Claude Karimba, 17, is currently being held at Muhanga police station after throwing a grenade at sex residents on Friday evening.Concilie Mukanshimiye, 30, was found dead and Matthias Byenda, Gravis Habumugisha, Francine Uwamahoro, Emmanuel Nyandwi, and Alexandria Hakorimana in critical condition.They are currently admitted at Kabgayi hospital with deep, serious injuries; one has had both legs amputated.Karimba admits to stealing the grenade from the Muhanga police and army barracks, where he worked as a cleaner two years ago, and claims he received a death threat from Habumugisha and Mukanshimiye, who are married.“We had a cruel [fight] over banana plants and I was told that I am a ‘dead-man walking.’ So I decided to exterminate the group before hand,” Karimba says. “I lied to all of them (victims) that there a good brew to share as a group. I immediately pulled out the grenade and hit them. I am sorry. I was under the influence of anger and alcohol,” he said.The victims couldn’t be reached for comments as they were found in critical conditions.However the teenage is set to appear in court to answer charges of murder.Ends
