4 Real Promotions founder dies

Maggie Kenyana the founder of 4 Real Promotions Maggie Kenyana has died after losing her battle with liver cancer. She was 31. Kenyana, who founded a local company called 4 Real Promotions in 2003 with her partner, McDavis Genza to promote local artistes, passed away at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, May 6. Kenyana shot to fame in 2008, when her company started collaborating with the government and telecommunication companies to hire regional and international musicians to perform in the country. Some of the international musicians hired by 4 Real Promotions in collaboration with local companies, or government included: The Magic System (Ivory Coast), Koffi Olomide (DR Congo), P-Square (Nigeria), Brick and Lace, Sean Paul and Shaggy (America). She was diagnosed with throat cancer in October 2008, and underwent an emergency operation two months later. Despite undergoing vigorous treatments, Kenyana has finally succumbed to. In December, last year, Kenyana was admitted at Aga Khan Hospital, one of Kenya’s best hospitals for treatment. Hugely popular for her enthusiasm to promote Rwanda’s music, Kenyana has been wrestling with the cancer, while restlessly trying to promote Rwanda’s talented artistes to the international level. In her last interview with The New Times, Kenyana said she was planning to open an entertainment hall in Kigali, which would include a cinema, a discotheque, and studio to help local artistes. Kenyana was born and raised in Uganda and studied in Kenya. She returned to her motherland in 2000. Rwanda has lost a brilliant, talented, creative and cherishing woman, whose ambition has been to help and promote local talented artistes, thus developing Rwanda’s music industry. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
