78 percent of all crimes prosecuted by the National Prosecution Authority (NPPA) between June 2023 and June 2024 involved suspects under the age of 40, new statistics have shown. Speaking during the conclusion of the judicial year on Monday, September 2, Prosecutor General Angelique Habyarimana, said the NPPA received 90,493 case files from investigators, of which 90,079 were processed—representing a completion rate of 99.5 percent. The conviction rate for prosecuted cases stood at over 93 percent, meaning that more than 42,796 cases resulted in convictions. Habyarimana pointed out that 78 percent of prosecuted individuals were under 40 years old. These are good years for contributing to the country. So, it is important for relevant institutions to find ways of paying attention to this young population in order to reduce the crime rates, she emphasised.
