The registration exercise for this year’s competition whose theme is, “End Violence against Women and Children” is taking place at the athletics federation headquarters located at Amahoro stadium. Over 4000 participants from different parts of the world are expected to take part but only two hundred have so far registered. The marathon is divided in to four categories; the full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), the run for fun (5km) and run to school for children of 10 years and below (4km). The winner of the full marathon both in the men and women’s category stands to bag $2000 while the first and second runners-up will get $15000 $ 1200 respectively. According to the event organizers, the competition will be preceded by two music concerts to raise awareness about peace in Rwanda. The concerts will take place at Petit Stade and Serena Hotel on May 22 and 23 respectively. Local athletics federation Secretary General Appollinaire Munyangoga said that it will be the first time such concerts are organised. “We decided to organise the concerts before the marathon to highlight the existing peace in our country,” Munyangoga told Times Sport yesterday.
