National men’s volleyball champions APR won their classification match against Porto Douala to finish seventh in the Men Africa volleyball club championship which climaxed over the weekend in Cairo, Egypt. APR defeated the Cameroonian giant 3-2 (19-23 25-25 15-25, 25-14 23-10) after tasting defeat in the quarter-finals against Libyan side Al Ahly Tripoli 3-1 (16-25 16-19 25-19 25-25). Porto Douala finished eighth. Host side Zamalek won the 2009 Men’s African Club Championship for the fourth time in the history since its birth in 1984 following their thriller 3-2 (25-23 25-19, 13-14 13-25 15-25) victory over their arch rivals Al Ahly in the finals. Zamalek repeated the victory over their compatriots for the second year in a row after they achieved the same in the last competition in Libya last year. In the battle for the 5th-8th spot, Cameroonian AES Sonel defeated Rwanda’s APR 3-0 as Kenya’s General Service Unit beat Port Douala 3-0 (25-25 25-21 19-16). General Service Unit finished fifth after a 3-1 (28-25 22-25, 26-13 25-23) win over AES Sonel. Libya’s Al-Ahli Tripoli, who ended APR’s run in the quarter finals, finished third after a 3- 2 (25-20 16-26 15-19 25-25 24-13) win over Cameroon’s FAP. Ends
