Infrastructure minister has said good governance and planned urbanisation can reduce poverty.Citing Rwanda, Stanislas Kamanzi said, “As in other countries, there is a linear relationship between urbanisation and economic growth.” The minister was addressing a conference on poverty reduction and good governance at Kigali Serena Hotel. The conference was organised by the Government of Rwanda in partnership with the United Nations Programme for Human Settlement (UN - HABITAT).He noted that in sub-Saharan Africa, the economic growth between 1990 and 2003 was spurred by primarily the industrial and service sectors. The input of these two sectors to the Rwandan GDP was 64 percent in 2006, in spite of the low rate of urbanisation.Ends
