In most cases, job hunters rarely have conditions as to what to entertain or not when it comes to work. Their only prayer is for an occupation that pays at the same time. Until you get that desired occupation, that is when you come to understand that there is more to your career than working a job; a positive work environment is one of the main reason for an employee’s satisfaction. According to Davis Kabera, the CEO of KAI ltd, an online shopping market, a positive work environment promotes employee’s wellbeing, good working practices, supportive atmosphere, same values productivity, as well as growth of every employee. He adds that an employee should embrace a positive work environment because there is so much more than the name of the company, title and salary you might be getting. “Especially when you are new in the career world, the atmospheric world you are exposed to first, determines your way of getting things done, probably for the rest of your career depending on your character.” He adds that workplaces are like a second home for employees because that is where they spend most of their time and they are likely to adopt its culture and behaviour, hence the need to embrace a positive one. Alice Uwimana, a sales and promotion manager says working in a positive work environment promotes smart work. She adds that it gives an employee a hint of how to get the job done smartly, without following a formula of what others do. “Smart people do things in a different way, which gives a genius result. It can also help you become a better worker, which may influence your promotions and raises in the company.” Working in a positive work environment might also save you from mental health issues that are normally influenced by work stress and burn out. Company’s benefits Companies that promote a positive work atmosphere are better in production than others, says Grace Mbabazi, a finance officer at Azam Rwanda. “When workers are happy, they add on work output. They may be more productive and equipped to get their tasks done efficiently, as they work for the better of their company.” She adds that, the positive atmosphere also fosters rapid growth of the company, because when an employee is provided with a positive reinforcement, it creates his or her feeling of valuable contribution towards the company and they may work their way to improve their way of thinking and production. Mbabazi continues that, the positive environment at work promotes creativity and competition amongst employees because everyone may admire working in such a company for its great reputation outside. Employers may achieve this goal of creating a positive work environment through being open to their employees, as employees who feel their leaders communicate with them directly and truthfully are far more likely to respect the company they work for and feel positive about their work environment. Encourage diversity. Welcome people of all allowed working age, ethnicities, cultures, religions and genders. This will create a positive work output as diverse inclusive teams promote innovation, forward-thinking organisation. Last but not least, employers must focus on its overall culture, supports all its employee’s growth and making employees safe and comfortable.
