It is hard for most Rwandan musicians to make a name for themselves while still in school, but it was not the case for 'Peace of Mind' hit maker Shemi who recently concluded his secondary school studies with already existing mainstream hit songs. The young vocalist started making music at only 4 when he produced a cover of one of celebrated Rwandan musician —also his uncle —The Ben, but it was not until he turned 18 to debut in Rwanda’s music scene as one of the most promising artistes of 2023. He was at the time in Senior Four. ALSO READ: Kade, Shemi, Kabaka and other promising artistes to keep an eye on in 2024 Despite all the fame his first single track attracted to his name, Shemi recently disappeared from the limelight and many entertainment watchers alleged he was a one hit wonder who is going to disappear just like some of his peers. In a surprise move, Shemi on August 18, posted graduation pictures captioned ‘Oh men, I’m Active’, in what he described as alerting fans about his comeback in the game to claim his place in Rwanda’s music industry. In an exclusive interview with The New Times, the youngster, who has two singles and a number of hit collaborations to his name, said that he spent the last 10 months focused on finishing high school and currently eyes to make a major comeback and produce music full time. “Juggling music with school is not easy, but the good thing is that I learned a lot from it and I’m happy to be back to do what I do best,” Shemi said, adding, “I’m now focused on making a lot of music.” Shemi, 21, graduated from Glory Secondary School in the department of networking. He made his comeback noticed when he recently featured on Rwanda Rw’Ejo III, a collaborative album by the young generation making waves in Rwanda’s music industry. Asked about his next move, Shemi confirmed that another single is dropping in September before he releases maiden Extended Play (EP) before the year ends. “Coming back in business means that a lot of bangers are on the way since I have been quiet for a long time. My next single drops next month and EP before December. I can’t wait to share this masterpiece with my fans,” he added. Shemi’s first single track ‘Peace of Mind’, regarded as one of the best hit songs of 2022, is the reason most Rwandans know him, but he has managed to stay at his peak with a number of featurings such as DJ Pyfo's 'Solo' and Kevin Klein's 'Ntagotwa', all of which premiered before the takeover of his second single 'One Time'.
