Sunday, October 23 Mukura vs SC Kiyovu Rutsiro vs Gorilla Musanze vs Sunrise Rayon vs Espoir Bugesera vs Rwamagana City Mukura Victory Sports and SC Kiyovu will clash in Huye on Sunday afternoon in one of the oldest football rivalries in the Rwanda Premier League. Kiyovu will go into the match with a big task at hand to maintain their fairly good start to the 2022/2023 season having won three, lost one and drawn one after five rounds. On the other hand, Mukura won two games and lost two after four matches and is also optimistic to stretch their winning streak to four victories in a row. “This is a big and important match for us and our fans, and we have prepared for it in the best way possible. Our goal is to get the three points and remain the pacemakers,” Mukura head coach, Afahmia Lotfi, said on Friday. Huye-based Mukura was founded in 1963, a year before the establishment of the Nyamirambo-based Kiyovu. The latter remains the only Rwandan football club to go a whole season unbeaten – during the 1990 season. In an interview, Kiyovu coach Alain Andre Landeut said: “We are ready, and we will fight with all we got to win the game. Mukura has always proved to be a strong opponent, and this game will be no exception. However, our players understand the challenge at hand.” His side is hungry for titles as they look to end a 28-year wait for their domestic league title. Kiyovu has not won the topflight league silverware since 1993. Before the horrendous events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, SC Kiyovu was the most successful football club in the country. Elsewhere, Rutsiro will play against Gorilla, Musanze take on Sunrise, Rayon host Espoir, and Bugesera will be up against Rwamagana City. Rayon Sports are leading the table with 12 points, followed by SC Kiyovu and Gasogi United with 10 points each while APR is fifth with nine points.
