If you’re the kind of person that is always in high gear to wake up and get excited about work each and every day, then you’re unique, just keep it up. Doing the same kind of work or carrying out the same tasks every single day can be challenging ,at times boredom can kick in. Sometimes the dullness is triggered by other issues actually that are not work-related, but eventually, they affect the way you work, some of these include; illness, family issues, and much more. At times, the lack of morale may be due to working under pressure, lack of appreciation, stress, among others. Jean Pierre Gahigi, a communications specialist in Kigali, is of the view that the thief of joy at work is worry as most workers try so hard to stress about the projects that are at hand, which makes work boring. He urges handling one thing at a go, and requesting help whenever you need it than trying to figure out things on your own. Gahigi explains that you have to trace the cause of your mood and seek a solution as soon as possible, because failure to do so will just mess up your day and work as well. “Everyone experiences bad days, but if you’re passing through a tough time and require a shoulder to lean on, talk to a friend or someone you trust. If possible, request for a day off, if that’s what will make you feel alright,” he says. Gahigi stresses that finding a new skill to concentrate on in your free time, may lift you up, and reflect on positivity. He carries on that avoid sitting at your desk all day without initiating conversations with your colleagues, if possible, make new friendships at work, somehow, this will boost you up. Get time to hang out after work. Gahigi notes that have a work-life balance, when you are out of the office, it is advisable to put work aside, and enjoy other activities, otherwise, continuing with work at home will just leave you miserable. Experts advise you to meditate since meditation has plenty of benefits, such as; improved stress management, improved memory, relief from anxiety, and others. “Taking time off to exercise during your lunch break can boost your self-esteem and put the stress at bay and leave you feeling fresh.” Gahigi urges you to keep a positive relationship with your colleagues and discourages participating in gossip. He says that as a worker, you should be friendly to your co-workers. Research shows that the act of smiling can actually make you feel happier, so try to paste on a smile regardless of how you really feel – it may just boost your mood and your workplace happiness. “Sometimes what kills morale is lack of a purpose, if you just come to work and wait for the end of the month to receive a salary to spend it, then you won’t have something to look up to. Because once salary is over, without using it for something impactful, you obviously can’t be happy. You should aim for a motive,” Maureen Umuringa, a human resource expert says. She says to stop thinking negatively about your job, it may not be the best, but try to focus on the positives as some people are desperately looking for jobs in vain, so appreciate the fact that you have one. Umuringa stresses that one should get time to rest, as your body needs it. ‘You can’t work to your best if you’re tired or stressed.’ Music is known to have the ability to change one’s mood, which makes it an excellent stress reliever.
