Rwanda Energy Group (REG), the champions of the 2018/19 national volleyball league, on Monday re-appointed Pierre Marshal Kwizera as the clubs head coach on a two-year deal. The former national team player previously served the club as a coach on interim basis. Kwizera replaces Benon Mugisha Barayavuga who led REG to the 2018/19 national volleyball league title. The 35-year-old called time on his 15-year playing career in 2019 after helping Rwanda Energy Group (REG) to their historic first league title. “It is a done deal. Kwizera is our new coach for the next two years” confirmed club president Geoffrey Zawadi. Kwizera returns to coaching action after two years without a job since he parted company with Gisagara as their coach in 2020 after he was blamed for the club’s poor performance. He at the time helped the Southern Province volleyball powerhouse finish 4th in league but the club fans and management were not impressed by his performance having agreed to deliver a league title. During his playing days, the former center blocker played for local outfits including REG where he spent his final two seasons in competitive volleyball, Gahini, Kibungo VC, Umubano Blue Tigers, Kigali Volleyball Club, APR, Lycee de Nyanza, Rayon Sports and University of Kibungo Volleyball Club (UNIK). Kwizera also enjoyed a playing stint abroad when he signed to play for Algerian side OMK El Milia in 2013.
