The U-18 national teams in the boys’ and girls’ categories are gearing up for the U-18 Zone V Afrobasket qualifiers slated for June in Cairo, Egypt. The teams have already embarked on preparations, holding training sessions on weekends, since the players are students. “We had selected 30 boys and 30 girls from various schools. They have been in camp for two weeks but the coaches have selected 20 boys and 24 girls, they who will carry on with the preparations,” said Moise Mutokambali, the Technical Director at the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba). Eventually, a total of 12 boys and 12 girls will be selected as the final squad that will travel to Egypt to represent the country. The exact date for the qualifiers has not yet been confirmed. The boys’ team is coached by Yves Murenzi, while the girls’ is coached by Jean Claude Muhirwa Rukundo.
