Cliff Owuor has warned league clubs not to count off Marine in the race for this year’s National Basketball League. The APR tactician made these remarks following Marine’s blistering start to the second round. “Marine have not lost a game this round which puts them in a very good position for this year’s play-offs,” Owuor, the APR coach said. Although the Gisenyi-based side finished third in her Pool (A) after falling to CSK A and defending champions APR, they have registered a 100% start to the second round after four convincing wins on the trot. On top of recording relatively easy victories over ISAE, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), Marine also pulled off a stunning 77-63 win over CSK A last Sunday. The club’s manager Patrick Shingiro concedes that Marine’s win over CSK A is a major boast ahead of the club’s final tie against APR. “In the first round, CSK A beat us with a difference of 12points. Last Sunday, we beat them by a difference of 14points which gives us an extra edge over them. “We have not lost a game in the second round and we want to keep it that way when the second round winds up,” Shingiro noted. Shingiro also added, “ Last year, Marine made their league debut and got to the play-offs. Who knows what will happen this year!” Marine face APR this Saturday in their final league tie and a win for them automatically sails the club through to this year’s play-offs.Ends
