The discovery of a 2,492-carat diamond was announced by Lucara Diamond Corp. Wednesday. It was the largest diamond ever discovered in Botswana and the second largest worldwide. Lucara, a Canadian company, said the diamond was found and recovered in the Karowe Diamond Mine in north-central Botswana. We are ecstatic about the recovery of this extraordinary 2,492-carat diamond. This find not only showcases the remarkable potential of our Karowe Mine but also upholds our strategic investment in cutting-edge XRT technology, Lucara's president and chief executive officer William Lamb said in a press release. The latest find followed the mine's other major discoveries: a 1,758-carat diamond in 2019 and a 1,109-carat one in 2015.
