Shemsa Neza takes pride in creating and organising people’s spaces. Her love for interior design has always been there long before she started her designing company- Kwezi Interior Designs. She officially launched her business at the end of 2021, and apparently, chasing her dream and passion has so far been worthwhile. Neza graduated in the Arts of Mass Media and Communication but like most designers and interior décor lovers, she says she has always had an eye for what goes with what and how to position things in different spaces and so, venturing into this space came naturally for her. Neza is passionate about the arts in general; starting ‘Kwezi’ was part of that and interior design is something so close to her heart, she says. “Beautiful homes and spaces take my breath away and I love contributing towards creating such beauty that warms other people’s hearts and life in general. So, I would say I am inspired by the passion inside me,” the designer says. Shemsa Neza. Kwezi Interior Designs, is an interior design and home improvement space. The products made are mostly decor pieces like handmade cushions and covers, table runners, indoor plants and vases, wooden planters and more. However, they also offer consultation on interior design to their clients. They do makeovers for clients and offer advice on how one can go about changing their place into their dream space. As a businesswoman, she runs her venture solely but in terms of production; she works with different people, wood-workers, pot-makers, tailors and many more. Most of the products they design are locally made and sourced, though the designer reveals how difficult it is to get materials sometimes. In order to deal with this, Neza says she is focusing on sourcing all her materials locally and works with local artisans for that. “We work with different artisans depending on the products we are producing. For example, we work with women who make clay pots for our clay pots planter. Design-wise, I always want to create or design something unique, functional and appealing to the eye,” she says. “I believe in using what I have at hand to make beautiful pieces. The unique aspect is the fact that all the products are carefully selected and handmade, and buying my products is indirectly giving back to the community since all materials are locally sourced,” Neza adds. She says she is yet to make her iconic design, however, her dream is to make designs that will have capacity to last for centuries. She wants to create products that are unique and instantly reflect her brand. “My future goal is to create futuristic modern designs that will last for centuries, I want people to look at a product and without a question, know that this is a Kwezi product,” Neza says. The designer also wants to impact and give back to her community in one way or another through arts and design.
