The withdrawal of contestant no.43, Lynda Nkusi from Miss Rwanda 2022 has left 19 girls vying for the crown come March 19. Nkusi, who represented the Eastern Province, withdrew from the competition on Tuesday, in an announcement issued by the organisers, citing personal or family reasons. “We would like to inform the general public that contestant Nkusi Lynda [No 43] has withdrawn from Miss Rwanda 2022,” a brief statement from Miss Rwanda organisation reads. “In a letter addressed to the management of Miss Rwanda organization, Nkusi said she was leaving the competition due to personal/family reasons,” it added. No other details were given as to why the 22-year-old called it quits. Nkusi, a university student, had pitched a project which would focus on creating online platforms with the aim of using technology to create jobs. Her withdrawal came on International Women’s Day, when the finalists had entered the second week of the boot camp currently going on at La Palisse Hotel Nyamata. On Tuesday, the girls visited Nyamata Hospital where they visited mothers who delivered in the maternity ward, presenting them with flowers and other basic needs such as pampers, soap and wipes. The activity was done in partnership with Bella Flowers. On the same day, the 20 contestants participated in IWD 2022 celebrations in Bugesera District, held in Rilima sector, where they joined residents and officials in different festivities to mark the day. The finalists participated in a ceremony to award certificates to women who completed training to start income generating activities, offered by a non-profit organisation ‘Fondazione Marcegaglia Onlus’. The event was attended by MP Anonciata Mukarugwiza and the Mayor of Bugesera district, Richard Mutabazi.
