Saturday Rayon Sports 0-0 APR Espoir 0-0 Musanze Rayon Sports’ wait for a win over arch rivals APR FC continues after being held to a goalless draw during a derby on Saturday, February 26, at the fully-packed Kigali Stadium. The Blues started the game aggressively pushing for an early lead and Karim Nizigiyimana thought he had won a penalty after he was tripped by APR defender Claude Niyomugabo. However, centre referee Claude Ishimwe did not award the penalty. Apparently, both teams built their game from defense and not any of the two rivals wanted to concede a goal early on until the referee blew for half time. It was APR that played better in the second half after Adil Erradi made changes in second half by bringing in Yannick Bizimana for Jacques Tuyisenge who failed to impress in the first half. No player at the time managed a shot on target until Mugisha tested Rayon’s shot stopper Adolphe Hakizimana with a slow shot which the goalie comfortably grabbed. Striker Esenu Musa thought he had opened the scores in the dying minutes but his header was saved by APR’s goal keeper Pierre Ishimwe who punched the ball over the crossbar. Despite the draw, APR remain top of the table with 41 points and could go level on points with Kiyovu SC should they win Sunday’s league tie against Gicumbi at Kigali Stadium. Meanwhile, Rayon remains fourth on the table with 33 points and they are level on points with third-placed Mukura who also failed to beat Rutsiro FC on Friday as both teams shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw in Huye.
