Ndangiza comforts family of murdered child

WESTERN PROVINCE RUTSIRO — The Executive Secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), Fatuma Ndangiza has urged local leaders to sensitise genocide perpetrators on genuinely asking for forgiveness, in order to enhance the reconciliation drive. Ndangiza was last week meeting the family of Augustin Kanyeshuri, a resident of Ruhango Sector in Rutsiro District, whose son was recently killed by people, suspected of Genocide ideology. Mbyeyi Byiringiro, 13, was killed on April 18 by four herdsmen who later burnt his body in a kraal. Police has so far arrested four people in connection with the murder, and they all admitted to the charges. Ndangiza, who was accompanied by other NURC commissioners, visited the area to console the bereaved family. She called upon members of the bereaved family and relatives to remain strong and restrain from any vengeance actions, saying the law would take its course. The NURC gave the bereaved family an exotic cow. The officials were welcomed by district officials who included Mayor Jean Ndimubahire, the Rustiro District Police Commander, Chief Supt Gerome Ntagerura and many area residents. The Mayor condemned the killing and promised emotional support to the family. Kanyeshuri, the father of the deceased child, said survivors still face security threats in the sector, unless the Police contain the situation. “This is the second person to be killed in this sector among survivors. There are people in this area who still harbour Genocide ideology, and if nothing is done, they will continue killing us,” he said. Survivors said Genocide ideology is particularly prevalent in Murunda sector and Kirwa cell. In his remarks, Chief Supt Ntagerura called upon residents to always report cases of Genocide ideology to police and local authorities so as to prevent murder crimes. Ends
