60 trained in modern farming methods

EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — Sixity eight people in Nyagatare District have completed a five-day training in poultry farming, fish farming, and bee keeping. The residents were drawn from Rukomo, Gatunda, Karama and Tabagwe sectors. The training was organised by the Rwanda Integrated Rural Education Programme (REREP) in conjunction with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA). “We have trained you to become self reliant and also to become trainers to the rest of the community, work as role models,” the project Manager, Laban Rutare told the participants during the pass out last Friday. “This has been the first phase of the training, in the second phase we shall find out whether you are applying those skills,” he added. Rutare reiterated REREP’s commitment to supporting Nyagatare residents to fight poverty. “With your willingness and determination, the project finds it easy to offer more support in this struggle of fighting poverty that is becoming a menace to most of us,” he added. Emmanuel Hakuzweyezu, an official from the district hailed REREP for the training support, describing it as a blessing to residents. He urged residents to employ the knowledge they learnt from the training. “You must start now and alleviate poverty using those very skills, don’t wait,” he said, pointing out that organisers of such training feel frustrated whenever they visit the community, and there is no positive change.
