The cycling sport in Rwanda has received a boost after an Israeli club “Premier Tech Pro Cycling Team” agreed to sponsor the construction of a pump-track in Bugesera district. A pump-track is a path for wheeled sports equipment where riders are not required to pedal or push to maintain momentum. The facility will cost about $250,000 (Rwf250m). The money will be raised from donors, while the owner of Premier Tech pro Cycling Team will also contribute to the project. Last week, the club trained young riders in Rwanda, in a ten-day camp that gave them skills about mechanics. We have had some impressive accomplishments from our racing for change initiative in Rwanda, but as I like to say, we are just getting started,” Sylvan Adams, partner of Premier Tech pro Cycling Team said. We see the Rwandan people as brothers and sisters as we both went through dark times of genocide. Its only natural that we feel obliged and committed to develop youth cycling in Rwanda, and we are now more committed than ever after a successful first year of the project, Ron Baron, the team’s founder added. Israel’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Dr. Ron Adam expressed his delight for the development: “We are proud of the contribution of the team, both in sharing the cyclist’s knowledge and skills with the Rwandan women in Bugesera, and of their other generous contributions,” he said.
