Barcelona legend Jose Maria Bakero will jet into the country on Saturday, February 5 for a nine-day working visit in Rwanda within the framework of potential partnership with local football governing body (FERWAFA) in his capacity as Barcelona scouting director. According to Ferwafa, the former Spanish footballer, who played for both Barcelona and Real Sociedad will on February 8, meet with Rwanda’s men and women first division league team head coaches as well as the men’s senior national team technical staff to exchange experiences and know-how. He will also visit different football academies and watch the on-going league matches throughout his stay in Rwanda. Bakero is also expected to experience and discover the beauty of Rwanda with trips to Volcanoes National Park as well as Akagera National Park. He will also the Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay respects to the victims and to learn more about the Genocide against the Tutsi. During his football career, the former Barcelona midfielder was part of the Catalan club’s successful era from 1988 and 1997. During his spell, he played 329 matches overall during which he helped the club win 13 trophies.
