Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana has been appointed as the new Director General of The University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB), according to a communication dated February 3, from the Office of the Prime Minister. Prior to his appointment, Nsanzimana was the Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), a position he had held since July 2019. On December 7, 2021, he was suspended over ‘matters of accountability’, and was under investigation, according to a statement that was released on the Premier’s official Twitter handle. Nsanzimana’s appointment to head RBC was shortly followed by the outbreak of the global pandemic, the Covid-19 and the body has been at the centre of this fight in the country. He is replacing Dr Christian Ngarambe who had been serving in acting capacity as the hospital’s Director General. A medical doctor by profession, Nsanzimana, served as the Director of National HIV Program for Rwanda and Division Manager for HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis at the Institute of HIV Disease Prevention and Control at RBC, since 2008.
