Moïse Mugisha and Diane Ingabire emerged victorious on the first day of the Rwanda National Cycling Championships 2024 held on Saturday, August 17. Organised by the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), the two-day championship was initially scheduled for June but had to be postponed. The competition saw cyclists race in various categories, including men, under-23, juniors (under 18), and women (both elite and under 18). ALSO READ: Cycling: National championship set for August The first day’s race took place on a 24-kilometer course that started in Batsinda, Gasabo District, and proceeded through Marega, before it concluded in Batsinda. Mugisha, who rides for Benediction, was the last to start but clocked the fastest time of 29 minutes and 49 seconds, finishing two minutes ahead of his closest rival, Etienne Tuyizere. In the elite women’s category, independent cyclist Ingabire claimed victory with a time of 36 minutes and six seconds, finishing four minutes ahead of Violette Irakoze Neza of Kamera Cycling Club. The championship will continue on Sunday with a Road Race, where cyclists will start from Shyorongi and finish in Batsinda, covering a distance of 133 kilometers.
