The Ministry of Health reported a total of four confirmed cases of mpox in the country on Friday, August 16, since July 27 all of which are connected to recent international travel. Of the four cases, two have recovered and were discharged, it is noted. The ministry assured the public that the situation is well-managed and stressed that Rwanda remains a safe destination for both residents and visitors. “Rigorous precautions are being implemented to prevent further cases.” ALSO READ: New mpox cases in Africa surge by 61% in June In light of these developments, the ministry urges the public to follow essential preventive measures. These include maintaining good hand hygiene by frequently washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer. People are also advised to avoid close contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms of mpox—such as rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes—and to seek prompt medical attention if such symptoms arise. Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay informed through official health channels and adhere to the guidelines provided by health authorities.
