King Lewis Abijuru, popularly known as Papa Cyangwe, has published his first project after parting ways with Rocky Entertainment, his former management team. The EP which premiered on January 4, holds collabos with top artistes in the country such as Chriz Easy, Bushali, Yannick MYK and Logan Joe. The five-song Extended Play (EP) comes as a result of what Papa Cyangwe did in 2021, a year that left him a household name in Rwanda. Talking to The New Times, the fast-rising artiste describes his newly released EP as an intro of many bangers and different projects he is going to drop this year. He says that last year was an introduction to the scene, but 2022 is a year to expand and shine in the music industry of Rwanda and worldwide. ‘Sitaki’, which means ‘I don’t want’, according to Papa Cyangwe, is a word that expresses how he feels currently in the industry. “I’ve been making music for over one year but some people still see me as a showbiz entertainer. I named my project ‘Sitaki’ to make my fans realise that I am not just a showbiz man but also a professional musician,” he says. Papa Cyangwe adds that the EP also comes to showcase other genres that he is capable of doing, not just Afro-beat, and to teach the youth how to use their talents and earn some income. “I published a lot of Afro bangers in the past. It’s time to explore new styles such as drill, trap and many others,” he says. The fast-rising artiste says that he is not under any management team, and has now started his career as an independent artiste. ‘Sitaki’ comes as a warm up for Papa Cyangwe’s debut album dubbed ‘SAZA AFRICA’ which will be out mid-2022. The EP was produced by Kina Beat, Pro Zed, Koze (Element pro’s younger brother), and mastered by Bob Pro and Davydenko. Some of its tracks that are already taking over in Kigali include ‘Niki Niki’, ‘Aho’ ft Bushali and ‘Kanjenje’ ft Chriz Easy.
