Moshions, a local powerhouse by fashion guru Moses Turahirwa, has been praised by many, locals and internationals, for establishing itself as Rwanda’s premier fashion brand, thanks to the progress it has made over a couple of years producing outstanding fashion creations. However, a dress that Miss Rwanda 2021 Grace Ingabire wore earlier this week during a catwalk night at the ongoing Miss World 2021 in Puerto Rico has brought the fashion house at the centre of criticisms from the public. Ingabire was at the time contesting for Miss World Top Model crown held on Monday night, December 6, but lost it to Miss World Cote d’Ivoire Olivia Yacé. Photos of Ingabire wearing the dress at the global beauty contest’s fashion night went viral on social media and has since sparked drama and criticism from the public who criticised the designer for choosing an ill-fitting dress. One of Rwanda’s regular Twitter users Claude Karangwa posted a photo of Ingabire posing in the yellow dress and said, “I dont know what to say”. Mbuze icyo mvuga🤭 pic.twitter.com/4aPwiOpWxk — Mwene Karangwa (@ClaudeKarangwa) December 9, 2021 The post attracted huge attention from his followers, with a big number blaming Moshions for putting Ingabire at the centre of the attention over a dress which they suggest wasn’t meant for an event of Miss World calibre, while others criticised the Miss Rwanda management for letting the beauty queen take the dress to the global beauty contest. “Frankly, Im embarrassed? Who really gave this dress to her?” commented one Jean Marie Kayijuka, before another identified as Gaelle Gisubizo claimed that ‘the dress itself is beautiful no matter what. The mother of two was impressed by Ingabires modelling session at Miss World but he remained critical of the dress that she was wearing during the session and pointed at the designer to take responsibility. “The designer dressing up our Miss must show up as soon as possible and apologise to us all,” she posted on her Twitter account before adding, “I love how she [Ingabire] keeps smiling. She is so cute” Umuntu uri kwambika Miss wacu ,yivuge hakirikare 🤣🤣,narangiza adusabe imbabazi twese I love how she keeps smiling 😍😍 She is so cute pic.twitter.com/k0oA82PK1U — Shaddyboo (@shaddyboo__92) December 9, 2021 There is, however, another section of people that blamed Ingabire herself for letting the designer give her a dress that she, at the moment, does not feel proud of. “Apart from those who chose for her, can’t she see things that are not right for her and reject them?” said one Sylvain Nsengiyumva. While Moshions targets having its fashion creations to gather attention from the public through big international events like Miss world, people think it could lose the reputation it has built over a couple of years if it does not manage the fashion-related criticisms to protect the brand. Moses Turahirwa, the creative director of the fashion house and Miss Rwanda organisation, that is currently behind Ingabire’s management, were not able to comment on the issue by press time.
