The fourth Indoor Residual Spraying exercise by Research Triangle Institute International (RTI) will start in August. The government contracted RTI to carry out the exercise in the five districts of Gasabo, Nyarugenge, Nyanza and Kicukiro and is aimed at fighting Malaria in households nationwide. “There is a way we conduct the programme so as to make it effective and create an impact to the public. So we have set August to start the fourth exercise,” said Dr Corine Karema, Director of Malaria Unit/ TRAC plus. She explained that the way the programme is implemented; gives all the partners involved an excellent participation. “This has made the programme to achieve its targets in the last three spraying exercises,” Dr. Karema said, adding that the programme has performed well in the previous exercise. “We managed to surpass our target in the third round,” he stressed. The spraying exercise was supposed to cover 36 sectors in a period of three months. It was supposed to end on March 31, but by March 10, all 36 sectors were covered. The official said that in the next exercise, it is their wish to extend the service from five to nine districts. “I can not confirm that we shall be having the exercise in nine districts, nor can I name these districts. We are still in negotiations with all the stake holders it, but it’s our wish,” she said. Ends
