The 2021 edition of the national Cross Country Championship is set to take place on Sunday, November 14 at IPRC Kicukiro Stadium. John Peter Ndacyayisenga, the technical Director at the Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) told Times Sport that the competition will start at 8am, adding that it is part of the preparation process for the world cross country championship. “The championships is part of the long term preparatory process of the national team to the World Cross Country Championship to be held on February 18 in Australia,” he said. The 6 event comprising this the competition will be performed in the following distances: Senior race Men: 10km (those who were born in 2001 and before) U20 race Men: 8km (those who were born in 2002 or 2003) U18 race Men: 6km (born in 2004 or 2005) Senior race Women:10 km (Those who were born in 2001 and before) U20 race Women: 6km (those who were born in 2002 or 2003) U18 race Women :4km (born in 2004 or 2005) Many clubs have registered their athletes and confirmed their participation. So far, a total number of 248 athletes have been registered from clubs including APR, NAS, Police Mountain Classic AC, Nyaruguru AC, Rutsiro AC, Huye AC, ,Nyamasheke AC, Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle, Rwamagana AC, Kavumu AC, Kamonyi AC, Sina Gerard AC, UR-Huye Campus, UR-Physical Education campus). The previous edition took place in IPRC-Kigali in 2019, and was won by APR Athletics club.
