The FIBA Africa Zone 5 Women’s club champion 2021 has been postponed by two days. Originally scheduled to take place between 16-21 of this month, the competition has been moved to 18-23. In an interview with Times Sport, Richard Nyirishema, the Vice President of the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) said the postponement aims at giving the host country (Tanzania) more time to conclude the preparations. The start date of the tournament has changed as the host country continues to prepare and the teams representing Rwanda continue to prepare, he said. Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and The Hoops women basketball clubs will represent Rwanda in the tournament. REG goes to the tournament courtesy of the fact that they are the league champions in Rwanda. As for The Hoops, their participation is due to the fact that they were supposed to represent Rwanda in the same competition last year, but due to the Covid-19 epidemic, it did not take place. That is why they will be allowed to take part in the 2021 tournament. Two teams, REG and The Hoops teams are expected to leave the country for the tournament on November 16.
