BENJAMIN PAUL MWIZERWA RUDAHIGWA is a man of many hats. He does painting, drawing, illustration, animations, singing and song writing as well as music production. His creativity comes is no surprise since he hails from an artistic family, which has been inspiring his craft. “My motivation came from my family, my father was a tailor and my brother was an artist, so I decided to do that as well and it is what I do for a living,” said Mwizerwa whose stage name is P Rain. Some of his songs include ‘Kamere,’ ‘Queen,’ ‘Isomo,’ and ‘Gitera,’ among others. Even with his talent, he still pursued art at Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts, in Kenya, Nairobi to his skills and pursue art professionally. His most recent project were comics and illustrations for ‘Afri-Canadian,’ a project he is so proud of being a part of. He has also worked with singer and illustrator Tom Close on his children books. Besides illustrations, he has worked with various artists for their song animations like ‘Iyo Byanze’ by Zizou Al Pacino featuring Bruce Melody and Social Mula. On our visit to his home studio where he does all the drawing and painting, music production, animation and illustration, he was painting an African woman piece. However, among the artworks he had there were some abstract paints which he said take longer to complete because they are details and brainstorming so that whoever sees the artwork can’t easily tell what it exactly is.
