As the amateur golf league inches closer to conclusion, there is debate among golf enthusiasts on who will win the tournament ahead of the much-anticipated final this weekend at Falcon country club. Dubbed PMC Piga Mingi’ (PMC), the annual golf tournament returned in September after the government cleared sports activities to resume after an 18-month hiatus. From the group stages and playoffs to the knockout stages, the league has so far been an eventful and entertaining campaign which has produced surprising but interesting results from a mix of new golfers and seasoned players. Antony Olwit booked himself a ticket to the final after beating Cecilia Misari in the individual competition last weekend to be the first to qualify for the PMC championship final. It wasn’t an easy qualification for the veteran who had a very hard game from Misari as she fought up to the last hole only to suffer a narrow defeat in the late stages. Antony had to apply all his experience and knowledge and keep focused to escape defeat. Olwit will wait for who, meet James Muigai who came from an injury to beat Clement Uwajeneza who had shown great sportsmanship by allowing James a few days to recover. The final will be played over two days with the first round of the final on Saturday, November 6, before the second and deciding round happens a week later on November 13 at Kigali Golf Course. The final event will be followed by a one-day tournament to celebrate all the winners. Among the winners are Group A, captained by Ivan Kwizera, which emerged the top group of the league campaign, having amassed 110 points, while Groups D and H completed the top three. “They were very organized and focused,” said Eugene Murenjekha, one of the league organisers. Other winners include Marcel Byusa and James Muigai who won against Butera G and Joseph Munyao to take the PMC 2021 Foursome Trophy. Biru Rai and Clement Uwajaneza won the 4 Ball Better Ball Trophy against Charles Ntare and Keith Bunyenyezi. Cecilia Misari won the Best Lady and Most Improved player and David Rwiyamirira won the Best Senior Player for PMC 2021
