Islam is the second largest religion of the world after Christianity, with almost 2 billion members globally. Despite this tremendous growth, Islam is the youngest major world religions as scholars date its birth in the 7th century during the time of Prophet Muhammad’s life. The recorded place of origin is Mecca (Currently South Arabia) where Muslims refer to as a holy city. According to the current documentation, Prophet Muhammad started receiving what Muslims consider as divine revelations calling for submission to the one God and caring for the poor and needy. After spreading that gospel, his message won the hearts of plenty of followers, creating an opposition to his city notables. The situation became worse and he migrated to the city of Yathrib (current Medina), he continued his discipleship there until his death in 632. By the early 13th century, one of the areas dominated by his followers conquered India taking their beliefs in the region too. Following was a quick spread of the beliefs because of the much more conquests conducted by areas dominated by Muslims in the middle east, Northern Africa and most other parts of the world, Europe, America and southern parts of Africa excluded. But the widespread of the Muslim message was weakened by some factors like the conquest of Islam Spain by the Christian forces in the 15th century and the enslavement of Muslim followers in several Italian territories. This was reversed during the early modern period when more Islamic states like the Ottoman Empire emerged as the world’s great powers. However, in the 19th and 20th century, more armed groups stabilised different parts of the globe, in the name of Islam. This tarnished the image of the religion worldwide.
