Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye is keen on being the first choice goalkeeper of Police FC ahead of the new season which kicks off on October 30. Police will start their campaign against newcomers Etoile d’Est, on Sunday, October 31, at Ngoma stadium. Bakame last week completed a move to Police after spending two years with AS Kigali. The 30-year-old has been a top goalkeeper for all the teams he has played for more than 13 years. He rose to fame in the 2008-2009 season when he helped the now defunct ATRACO FC win the league title, Peace Cup, and Cecafa Kagame Cup in Sudan. “It is a difficult job being a top goalkeeper in a big club because one mistake can cost you a lot,” Bakame said Bakame will compete with another new signing Umar Rwabugiri and Emmanuel Habarurema Gahungu who has been playing for the team in the last two years. Regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers the country has ever produced, Bakame has won many trophies with APR and Rayon Sports. The shot stopper was recalled to Amavubi’s senior squad this year but has yet to start after Emery Mvuyekure’s good exploits between the sticks.
