Gicumbi on Tuesday, October 12, progressed to the final of the second division league after beating Heroes FC 2-1 (3-1 on aggregate) at Gicumbi stadium to return to the top flight league after just one season. Etoile de l’Est, on the other side, eliminated Amagaju 6-5 on penalties after both sides were again tied to a 1-1 draw at Ngoma Stadium to go level 2-2 on aggregate. The Eastern Province-based side’s promotion put an end to the club’s 24-year wait for a ticket to the top flight league. Gicumbi and Etoile de l’Est will now face off on Friday, October 15, in a final that will decide the 2020/2021 second division league champions.
