I still have more years of playing football - Meddie Kagere

Former Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere, 37, has dismissed any talk of retirement, saying he still has more years of playing football. The veteran forward recently signed a one year contract with Namungo FC, a Tanzanian outfit that joins the long list of clubs he has played for in east Africa and beyond. Kagere has previously featured for regional giants Simba SC of Tanzania and Singida Black Stars, as well as clubs in Rwanda, Uganda and Europe. I just have to continue working hard because it’s only God that holds our future,” he told Times Sport. Asked which league is the most competitive in east Africa, since he has played in three different countries, he said the Tanzanian league is a tough one. “Tanzania is more competitive compared to other leagues in east Africa. The country always has many clubs competing in the champions league and the confederations cup, and they have been doing better,” he noted. In the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, he was the top scorer in the Tanzanian League, scoring 23 and 22 goals respectively. READ ALSO: Meddie Kagere joins Namungo FC on six-month loan deal Born in Kampala on October 10, 1986, Kagere formally started his football career at Mbale Heroes where he played from 2004 to 2006 before joining the now-defunct Atraco FC in Rwanda. He has played for many clubs including Mbale Heroes FC, Kibuye FC, ATRACO FC, Kiyovu Sports, Mukura Victory Sports & Loisirs, Police FC, ES Zarzis, Rayon Sports, as well as Albanian Superliga side KF Tirana and Gor Mahia F.C of Kenya.
